Altrusa International of Yaquina Bay is collecting used books for a book sale on Make a Difference Day held this year on Saturday, October 23. Used CDs and DVDs will also be accepted. Proceeds from the sale will be used for Altrusa’s literacy mini-grant program which provides money to middle school teachers for the purchase of materials that support improving literacy for middle school aged students.

Donations of books, CDs, and DVDs can be made in Newport at the Newport Chamber of Commerce, TLC Federal Credit Union, West Coast Bank, and Umpqua Bank. The Toledo and Waldport branches of West Coast Bank are also receiving donations.

Make a Difference Day, is an annual day of helping others and is sponsored by USA WEEKEND Magazine and its 700 carrier newspapers. To recognize the day, Altrusa has previously donated money to the Toledo and Newport Head Start Programs. Altrusa International of Yaquina Bay is dedicated to improving the lives of women and children in Lincoln County through literacy, social and health services, and educational opportunities.
