Eugene Company Gets Sustainability Award
1/25/08
By Catalina Vazquez

The city of Eugene will recognize locally-owned Mountain Rose Herbs, one of the nation’s largest organic herb, and tea processors.

The award is called “bold steps toward sustainability,” the company has taken steps to reduce, reuse, and recycle all of their waste products, creating a zero waste work environment. Mountain Rose’s Shawn Donille says to apply for the award, he had to answer some questions.

Donille: “Do you provide health care insurance? Do you provide educational assistance? Do you have volunteer release time to contribute to community services? We answered yes to all those, of course. Energy reduction, carbon offsets—do you incorporate those for Mountain Rose Herbs it was yes, of course.”

Mayor Kitty Percy will make the announcement to the public at the Good Earth Home and Garden show this Saturday at the beginning of the Solar Home Tour at 2pm.
