#1 Ranked Oregon Softball Team College World Series Bound

Eric Evans/goducks.com

The University of Oregon softball team is on its way to the College World Series.  The Ducks defeated Minnesota in two games in this weekend’s Super Regional tournament in Eugene.

Last year at this time, Oregon’s dreams of making the World Series were dashed in the Super Regional.  But things are different this time around.  The Ducks went into the post season the number one team in the country.  And on Sunday, they finished off the Golden Gophers of Minnesota.   The post-game celebration eventually carried the team to their regular spot at home base facing the crowd and flashing the Oregon “O.”

In the first game, the Ducks were dominant, winning by the mercy rule in six innings.  On Sunday though, Minnesota’s pitching tightened up and the Oregon runs didn’t come as easy early.  But the team was able to score some insurance runs in the 7th inning to hold on for a 6-2 win.   A jovial Head Coach Mike White spoke after the game.

White: “We’re excited to take that next step, get down there to Oklahoma City.  Obviously the first time, we were like ‘Hey, wow we’re here.’  This time we want to go down, we want to make a statement.  I understand we’re one of the last teams standing from the PAC-12.  We want to carry the flag for the PAC-12 and put up a good performance down there.”

Oregon is the only team from the PAC-12 to advance to the College World Series, which begins this Thursday.  The Ducks will play Florida State in the first round of the tournament.
