A Deschutes County judge has raised the bail for a Bend daycare operator.  January Neatherlin is accused of abandoning seven young children at her “Little Giggles” daycare for workouts and tanning sessions.  KLCC’s Brian Bull reports.

Bail was raised from $200,000 to half a million dollars.  Neatherlin was arraigned on a grand jury indictment of 114 counts of criminal mistreatment and reckless endangerment.

Natasha Cawood says she took her infant son out of the daycare last year after she heard he was left alone with four other youngsters, while Neatherlin had her nails done.  She has little sympathy for her former friend.

“You’re talking about someone who’s very manipulative, who’s very good at talking her way out of things, and making people take her side.”

Cawood says investigators followed up on reports of Neatherlin’s neglect a year and a half ago, but couldn’t prove anything.

A plea entry date for Neatherlin has been set for April 13th.
