The Child Center Looks To Grow

The Child Center

The Child Center which provides mental health services for youth in Lane County is fundraising to pay for a new building on its Springfield campus.

The Child Center serves about 2,000 Lane County children and their families. Some of the buildings on its 10-acre campus are no longer safe to inhabit. Diane Burt is Project Manager. She says the goal is to construct a 6,200 square foot building to house office spaces for therapists and community health workers. Burt says the Child Center’s work is important because it can be overwhelming for families dealing with mental illness.
Burt: “Professional help makes a huge difference. So we see a lot of success. One reason therapists keep working is because it’s so exciting to see children and their families find the resources that they need and things get better at home.”
The Child Center is seeking approximately $1.3 million to fund the new building. The hope is to begin construction in the fall and open it in 2017.
