Coast Guard Searches For Bridge Jumper

octours.squarespace.com

The U.S. Coast Guard continues to search for a man who reportedly jumped off the Yaquina Bay Bridge Monday morning. Two witnesses told Newport Police they saw the man on the east side, center span where he leaned over the bridge rail and then went over. The incident was reported at about 8:20 am.

The U.S Coast Guard has taken over the search for the missing man. Petty Officer Amanda Norcross says the searchers will continue to access conditions.
Norcross: "What the weather is and they'll kind of do a metric as far as their search parameters. And then if it does go over night, usually they'll pause and then they'll do another morning search. But that will all vary. But even if we do end the search for that time being—if we receive additional information we can reopen the search and continue it again."
Emergency responders say the last time someone went off the Yaquina Bay Bridge was in November, 2014.  A Lincoln County woman admitted to throwing her young son to his death.
