Dumpster Fire Tied To Two Boys Charged In Civic Stadium Arson

John Stapleton

Two of the four boys charged with setting the fire that destroyed Eugene's Civic Stadium in June are suspected in at least one other arson involving a dumpster.

The trash bin fire was set the same day as the fire at Civic Stadium, according to a spokesman for Lane County Youth Services.  The two 12-year old boys face 2nd degree arson charges for dumpster fire and 1st and second degree arson charges for the Civic Stadium fire. The Register Guard reports the boys are suspected in another trash bin fire.
The other two boys, one 12, the other 10-years old, charged in the Civic case are not accused of setting other fires.
There is a fact-finding hearing September 22nd for one of the boys. The other hearings are scheduled on October 6th.
Police are investigating other suspicious fires.
It's unclear how the justice system will deal with the boys. Lane County Youth Services does not generally detain children under 15 years old. The boys were released to their guardians after being arrested for arson in the Civic fire.
