Like Creswell, Dunes City may become yet another Oregon town to ban marijuana sales. KLCC’s Brian Bull reports.

Ballot Measure 20-293 would prohibit all medical and recreational marijuana retailers, wholesalers, processors, and producers in this small community. The city approved three grow sites before it banned further grows last year.

Jared Anderson is a reporter with the Siuslaw News. He says backers talk up the business aspect of marijuana, while critics warn of crime and the odor.

As to the expected result come Election Night?

“Right now it’s really hard to tell," says Anderson. "One of the big things that the city council really wanted to put it out to the voters is because they said they really just didn’t know what the community feeling exactly was.”

Dunes City has two other ballot measures that Anderson says are tied to the marijuana issue.  One would establish a municipal court that would include a judge. Another ballot measure would impose a five-year local option tax.
