EPD Arrest Man Wanted for Threatening Eugene Church

UPDATE: This evening, an alert person who saw coverage of this suspect phoned EPD with a report he was in the café area of the Eugene Library.

UPDATED FRIDAY AFTERNOON - Downtown officers descended upon the café and took  Hernandez, Benjamin Jaramillo  (69) into custody without incident. He was wanted in Marion County for Larceny, and is being charged with Intimidation in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, and two counts of Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree.

Eugene Police are asking people to help them identify a man suspected of leaving a threatening note with bullets at the St. Mary Catholic Church, located at 1062 Charnelton. The incident happened Wednesday, September 19th, around 9 p.m.

On September 14th the same man is reported to have sprayed OC pepper spray through the same mail slot. This suspect has reportedly been harassing the clergy and church staff over the past few weeks.

The man is described as a white male, age 60-70, 5’10” to 6’ tall, weighing 170 to 180 pounds, with grey/silver or white hair and possibly a moustache and/or goatee.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (541)682-5111.
