Eugene 4J Won't Cut Any School Days Next Year

Eugene 4J

For the first time in 8 years, the Eugene 4J District won’t have to cut any school days next year. The Superintendent’s budget for the upcoming academic year calls for more school counselors.

4J Superintendent Gustavo Balderas says the budget is not fantastic, but it’s stable.
But he’s says Eugene 4j is one of the only districts of its size that doesn’t have enough counselors.
“It’s something that supports a classroom if there’s concerns or issues with students, there’s a trained professional that teachers can send the student to, and also help support the whole family.”
Balderas says he’d like to hire 5 additional counselors to spread across the 19 elementary schools. The goal is to have at least one at each school, once a week.  Balderas also plans to expand child care at North Eugene High School.
