Eugene And Lane County Collaborate On City Hall, Courthouse Construction

Lane County

Eugene might not construct its City Hall on the lot of the former building. It’s exploring other options, including on a county-owned property. The City and Lane County have teamed up to explore what could end up as a land swap.

The joint task force will look at possibilities for a new City Hall and courthouse, with an eye on the so-called butterfly lot between 7th and 8th on Oak, as well as the nearby courthouse and city hall blocks.

Devon Ashbridge is Lane County’s spokesperson.

Ashbridge: “Really it’s an opportunity that doesn’t come along very often that our timelines match up, and that we’re both looking at fairly significant projects that really effect some of the most prominent and well-visited public facilities and spaces in Eugene.”

Ashbridge says the task force is charged with researching benefits and risks of these construction projects. She says city, county, and state court staff make up the task force.

They will present information to Eugene’s City Council and the Lane County Board of Commissioners on November 14th.

Public comment on the collaboration is welcome at each scheduled Joint Elected Officials meeting this fall.
