Eugene City Councilor George Poling announced Wednesday he is retiring from his Ward 4 seat.
At the Council Work Session, Poling said after nearly 45 years in public service, he’s ready to enjoy his retirement. He was a law enforcement officer for about 30 years before first being elected to City Council in 2003.
Poling: “It’s just been a real honor and a pleasure to serve, the citizens of, not only my ward, but of the city of Eugene and, I gave it my best while I was here and I’m just thankful to the people that live in Ward 4 that continually elected me.”
At the meeting, Mayor Lucy Vinis and fellow councilors expressed their respect and admiration for Poling. He recommends former city councilor Jennifer Solomon to serve the remainder of his term representing north-east Eugene. His resignation is effective April 10th, when council reconvenes after a break. The City Council has 90 days to appoint someone to fill the seat
