Hopes For Housing For Eugene Homeless Youth

Rachael McDonald

St. Vincent de Paul of Lane County is in the early stages of creating housing for homeless youth. They want to renovate a church in south Eugene.

Paul Neville is with St. Vincent de Paul. He says the organization hopes to purchase the former home of Cascade Presbyterian Church. He says it would provide housing, rent-free, for up to 20 teens, ages 16 to 18.
“And it would give them a nice, safe, secure place to live in contrast to many right now are living on the street, couch-surfing, a very vulnerable population, particularly the young women. We’d have a residential manager. We would also have case workers available to work with them. The requirement would be simple, that you stay in school.”
Neville says St. Vinnies was approached by members of the neighborhood association who want to help homeless youth. Now, the agency needs to raise money to purchase the building and for renovation costs.
