Bullseye Glass in Southeast Portland is one of two glass companies that has voluntarily stopped using candium in and arsenic in its manufacturing of colored glasses.

Already mired in a number of toxic air findings, Portland — in less than 24 hours — has found itself facing three more developments that appear to indicate the air has not yet cleared. Here's a roundup of the latest news, plus where the heavy metals readings are located.

A Cease And Desist Order For Bullseye

On Thursday, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown issued a cease and desist order against Bullseye Glass Co. after the Department of Environmental Quality found toxic levels of lead in air monitors near a daycare facility. Bullseye and the DEQ have been under scrutiny since February for failing to prevent heavy metals air pollution in North and Southeast Portland.

Elevated Levels Near Precision Castparts

Then on Friday came news that air testing between March 30 and May 4 near the Southeast Portland manufacturing company Precision Castparts found elevated levels of nickel, hexavalent chromium and arsenic. The levels were above the state’s health-based goals for air quality, but below what would cause acute health risks for people nearby.

Chrome-Plating Company Cited

The release of those findings was coupled with the DEQ’s announcement that it had cited chrome-plating company Blount International, Inc. in the city’s Southeast for three violations of air pollution rules. The company was cited for exceeding the allowed levels of chromium emissions during a test performed in March.
