New Oregon Law Lets Recreational Users Buy Edibles

Gov. Kate Brown signed a bill into law Tuesday that integrates Oregon’s medical and recreational marijuana programs.

The legislation allows dispensaries to sell edible marijuana products to recreational users.

Stephen Layton is the director of patient advising at Doctor Jolly’s in Bend. He’s glad the dispensary will soon be able to sell edible pot products.

"I don’t fear the overindulgence factor—people eating too much," Layton said. "We’re pretty programmed here in Oregon to give dosage warnings, things like that. It’s very much part of our culture already."

The bill also makes it possible for recreational consumers to permanently continue to buy pot at medical dispensaries as they do now, under the early sales program that began last fall.
