"No Gaps To Fill" In Eugene's Budget

City of Eugene

Eugene City Manager Jon Ruiz says the financial outlook for next year is good.  He presented the spending plan to the budgetcommittee this week.

The $550 million budget includes the general operating fund and other expenses including the Eugene Airport. Jon Ruiz says there will be no need to make cuts.
“We’re steady and there are no gaps to fill which is, for folks that have been around for the last 7 years, this is great news for us and I think this is just a confirmation of the approach that the budget committee and the council have taken the last many years.”
Ruiz says the city has reduced expenses by merging its fire services with Springfield, reducing staff and as he describes it, living within our means. A voter-passed levy funds expanded hours at the downtown and branch libraries. Ruiz says the city will be hiring about 18 more full time employees at its libraries. The Eugene budget committee meets again next week.
