Officials Get "Information Dump" On Eugene City Hall Options

Rachael McDonald

The location and cost of a future Eugene City Hall is still in question as Councilors heard reports on different scenarios Monday evening.

Eugene City Councilors and Lane County Commissioners heard about three options for a new City Hall and a new County Courthouse. In those scenarios, costs estimates are similar.
Then the City Council took a look at the idea of moving City Hall into the existing EWEB headquarters near the Willamette River.
A consultant told councilors the EWEB site is viable. But the purchase cost and necessary renovation gave some pause. Councilor Alan Zelenka:
“$58, $60 million for this property which would be almost 2 ½ times the cost of the other options we’re looking at." Zelenka said, "I guess where I stumble is we’ve got the money to pay for what we were looking at the 1st meeting. Where would we come up with the extra $40 million dollars or $35 million dollars?”
City staff plans to have more information for cost comparisons at next Monday’s council meeting.
