Officials Urge Fire Caution During Heat Wave

inciweb

With resources stretched thin across the northwest, fire officials are asking the public to help prevent new fires. Triple-digit temperatures and tinder dry conditions mean just a spark could lead to a major wildfire.

More than a dozen large fires are burning across the state and more than 47 hundred people are fighting them. The Oregon Department of Forestry has increased restrictions on activity in the woods. Greg Wagonblast with ODF says they're hoping to prevent any human caused fires.

"If we get any new starts, the problem is there's just no additional resources out there to draw upon."

Industrial operations including logging and road-building are closed in ODF's South Cascade and Western Lane districts as well as in Douglas County. People are prohibited from open fires, mowing and other activities that pose fire risks.

The state has issued health advisories for poor air quality everywhere except Portland and the Oregon coast due to smoke from wildfires.
