Police Step Up Patrols During Civil War Game Friday

University of Oregon

Police will be on patrol when the Ducks and Beavers face off in the annual Civil War football game in Eugene Friday. The cops are trying to prevent people from drinking and driving.

Eugene Police Officer Ryan Stone says EPD is working with Springfield PD and Oregon State Police to saturate the roadways around Autzen. Stone says with the Thanksgiving holiday more people will be out.

Stone: "There's also the Black Friday events that are going on around town where there's going to be a lot of people that are trying to hurry from one place to another. And then that added to a home football game where we know that there are going to be 10s of thousands of people there and a number of them choosing to make the unsafe decision to drink and drive."

Law enforcement is stepping up the number of cops on the DUII beat with funding from state grants.

The University of Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers play in their 117th civil war game Friday. Kickoff is at 4. Fans attending the game are encouraged to take LTD shuttles to Autzen Stadium.
