As Reunification Deadline Looms, Four Children Remain Separated In Oregon

(Alec Cowan/KLCC)

Thursday is the court-ordered deadline for the Trump administration to reunify those it’s detained.

As of Wednesday at least four children in Oregon remained apart from their families at the border. This from Executive Director of The Immigration Counseling Service Lisa Lesage. Her non-profit represents unaccompanied minors.

The children were last known to be in the custody of a shelter somewhere in Multnomah County.

The Trump administration initially began separating children at the border as part of a ‘zero-tolerance’ immigration policy. Following outcry the president signed an order keeping families together in late June. A federal judge in California then ordered the administration to reunify families within thirty days.

Close to 2,500 children were separated and initial estimates show that 1,600 will be reunified by the end of the Thursday. 11 were also housed in Seattle, with four being reunited or connected with family in the U.S.
