Smoke From Terwilliger Fire Shifts To Eugene-Springfield Area

Inciweb

The air throughout the Southern Willamette Valley is expected to get smokier and hazier between now and Wednesday night. KLCC’s Brian Bull has more.

Shifting winds Tuesday morning have drawn smoke from the Terwilliger Fire down into the Eugene-Springfield metro area.

Jo Niehaus is public affairs manager for Lane Regional Air Protection Agency, orLRAPA. She says this development will become quickly apparent to many locals.

LRAPA sensors with air quality index readings are available online.

“So folks might have started smelling a little bit of that smoke, and actually can visually see the smoke rolling in from the east, and starting to really settle right here in the valley.”

Niehaus says there’s no healthy amount of smoke to breathe, so it’s best to stay indoors until Terwilliger Fire activity clears up.

“It is quite close to our area, so depending on any sort of east wind action, we can definitely expect to see the smoke return," she tells KLCC.  "And until this fire’s put out, residents can be fairly confident that they’ll be getting intrusions every once in a while.”

Residents can check LRAPA’s website for air quality updates.
