Wildfires Burn Across Oregon, Including Near Crater Lake National Park

inciweb

As of Tuesday afternoon, crews are tackling 15 wildfires across Oregon.   That’s according to the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center. KLCC’s Brian Bull has more.

Greg Heule is with California Incident Management Team One. He says one of the larger blazes in Oregon is a series of fires collectively called the High Cascades Complex.  More than 10,000 acres have burned already, outside Crater Lake National Park.

“We would encourage folks and let them know that Crater Lake is open, all facilities are open," Heule tells KLCC.

"There are some trails on the western side of the park that are still closed due to the two fires, but all facilities and all concessions are open.”

More than 1,200 personnel are at the High Cascades Complex.  Heule says they’re aiming to have it all taken care of by months’ end, assuming no more fires break out.

Meanwhile, the Jones Fire 10 miles northeast of Lowell is just 3 percent contained, with 320 personnel on it.

Smokey skies create vivid sunsets like this one in the Owens Valley area, California.

Cooler, drier weather has helped in recent days, but Heule says now it’s getting sunnier and more humid.  That can feed fires or make them harder to put out.
