Wildfires Continue To Burn In Oregon

http://inciweb.nwcg.gov

The hot and dry weather in Oregon continues to fuel wildfires. A new fire was reported over the 4th of July weekend.

The Niagara Fire is burning on 70 acres near Detroit. Roads are open and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

There are four other large fires burning in the state. Anything over 300 acres is considered large. Emily Veale is with the Umpqua National Forest. She says Bunker Hill is 388 acres and is 90 percent contained.

Veale: “We’ve been responding to small fires but it still is significant because if those fires are not detected in time and we cannot get crews to them or air they could ignite to a larger fire. Our fuels are really dry right now and with these increased temperatures it does increase the chance that we could have larger fires in the area.”

Veale says the smaller fires are human caused. The Bunker Hill complex was ignited by lightning. Fires are currently restricted to fire rings in designated campgrounds. The Umpqua National Forest regularly updates its Twitter and Facebook accounts with wildfire information.
