An Oregon Democratic Senator who serves on the Senate Intelligence Committee says Donald Trump’s longtime lawyer “played” them on Russia from the start.

Ron Wyden says Michael Cohen lied about the extent to which then-candidate Trump was pursuing business deals in Russia during 2016…namely a possible Trump hotel in Moscow.

“One of Donald Trump’s major messages was, “Russians are really strong and they’re tough, and it really would be in our interest to have a good relationship with the Russians,”' says Wyden. "He said in fact, that that was his version of “America First.”  What we now know, is what that was…was really Donald Trump’s bank account first.”

Last week, Cohen pleaded guilty to lying to Congress. Trump canceled his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin shortly afterwards.  U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is dismissing claims that the events are related.
