Yogi Tea Is Set To Be First LEED-Certified Tea Manufacturer In U.S.

(Yogi)

Eugene-based tea company Yogi moved into its new west-Eugene building last week.

Yogi’s new 21 million dollar building is set to be the first LEED-certified tea production facility in the U.S.

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and the certification is given to buildings with low environmental impact. Yogi’s Eugene facility will minimize waste and heat emissions, pollution, and maximize water efficiency through storm runoff gathering practices.

Yogi’s Sat Vir Khalsa  says the building’s environmental focus stays in line with Yogi’s vision for tea.

"For us it was all tied together related to how our product is reflected and represented; that our product is plant based, sustainable, organic. We use recycled materials, all of those elements. And we thought it was very important that our building also reflected that."

The expansion consolidates Yogi’s three area branches in Eugene, Springfield and Coburg into a single building. Yogi is the largest company in Lane County’s food manufacturing Industry.
