Sound Advice

Sound Advice

Sound Advice! is a free peer-to-peer, monthly, workshop hosted by The Shedd's Loop Oregon Committee. The sessions are designed to acquaint community members who experience hearing loss about the benefits of hearing loops to significantly improve comprehension and clarity. Hearing loops are a powerful addition to the tools needed to hear better both in large venues, such as performance halls and houses of worship, as well as in smaller or personal settings, such as pharmacy counters, meetings, and living rooms.
Come learn about how your hearing aid or cochlear implant works to access music or speech through a loop and practice using one in a relaxed atmosphere with volunteers who also have hearing loss. It's a friendly and supportive forum to ask questions and compare experiences hearing in a noisy world.
Many participants return several times – or become volunteers themselves -- as their knowledge and awareness deepens and their comfort grows in acknowledging and talking about the challenges of hearing loss.
Topics often range from “how to communicate with a doctor”, to your protected right under the American Disabilities Act for assistive listening systems in public venues, to how challenging Thanksgiving dinner can be for everyone.
Sound Advice meets on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10-11:30 am. Drop-ins are welcome, but it’s helpful to call in advance so we have enough handouts and materials on hand for everyone. 541-434-7000
The Shedd's Loop Oregon Committee encourages your family and friends to come too – effective communication is a two-way process!
