After decades of loving the historic Morning Edition theme music, NPR is rolling out a new version on May 6. A new suite of music that is "warm, fresh, weighted, smart, modern, and energetic" will replace the familiar tune you've been starting your day with for years.

Inspired by the work of BJ Leiderman, NPR says the new theme will reference the historic theme and "work cohesively across the entire program to create a consistent and recognizable sonic palette" for the program.

Our regular music programming is pre-empted tonight due to the weather.  Please enjoy Jazz Overnight beginning at 7:30 pm.

Our new Newport transmitter was installed January 15.  It is currently running at 100% of licensed power.  Hooray!   KLCO listeners, thank you for your patience!

Enjoy our special programming for the 2018 season!

KLCC Radio Adventures at Oregon Country Fair 1992-2018

On Thursday, July 7, 2017, my wife Sandune and I headed to the Oregon Coast.  Highway 126 takes us west, through Veneta.  This is the day before the Oregon Country Fair opens to the public.  In previous years, we would have been heading to the Fair instead of the coast.  But I just retired from KLCC and this is the beginning of things being different.

JUNE 19, 2018 - KLCC announced today that General Manager John Stark is retiring on August 31, after five years at the station and a 44-year career in public radio. Under Stark’s leadership, KLCC has obtained its largest audience, maximized local funding and launched the KLCC Public Radio Foundation.

Lane Community College has retained Livingston Associates search firm with deep connections to public radio and media executives to begin reviewing potential candidates (both nationally and locally) for the General Manager position.

KLCC 89.7 FM will broadcast from the Oregon Country Fair throughout the weekend of July 13, 14 & 15, 2018.   Beginning Friday at 2:00 pm and continuing all weekend, KLCC will bring the music, fun and ambience of the Fair to everyone with a radio, computer or smart device!

On May 21, 1998, one of the earliest modern-day school shootings erupted in the rural, working-class community of Springfield, Oregon.  At Thurston High School, freshman Kipland Kinkel opened fire on his classmates, inside a crowded cafeteria. The incident preceded the more infamous Columbine shooting by nearly a year.

KLCC's Brian Bull created a series of reports, revisiting the tragic events that left four people dead, two dozen wounded, and the community shocked and reeling in the aftermath.  Here are those reports.

KLCC's long-time and beloved Music Director Michael Canning died suddenly on May 14th, a year after retiring from KLCC.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday July 1, 2-5 pm, at the McDonald Theater.

The public is invited to attend a memory-filled afternoon honoring Michael and his contribution to music, dahlias, and joy in our community.

KLCC 89.7 FM will broadcast from the Oregon Country Fair throughout the weekend of July 7, 8, 9, 2017.   The live broadcast brings the fun of the Fair to everyone with a radio, computer or smartphone!

KLCC’s Brian Bull Wins 2017 PRNDI/NEFE Financial Reporting Award

Bull’s story, Robust Eugene-Springfield Housing Market Subject To Potential Downturns, showcased a couple moving from the rural east coast to Oregon and the tough financial decisions they faced while trying to buy a home in a more expensive housing market.

KLCC is losing $200,000 in funding from Lane Community College for the coming fiscal year.  We've been told this is a one-year suspension and not a permanent cut.

The next year will be a challenge, but KLCC is more committed than ever to its mission to engage the mind, enrich the spirit, and deepen understanding of our community and our world.  As we prepare for this sudden funding loss, we are asking listeners to please help fill the financial gap.
