13th Annual Civil War Blood Drive

Lane Blood Center

At the end of the month, the Ducks and the Beavers will face off on the football field for the annual Civil War game. For over a decade, Oregonians have been getting involved in the competition themselves by donating blood.

The Civil War Blood Drive has seen more than 85,000 people donate blood in the past 12 years. Now in its 13th year, Drive sponsors hope to see its largest turnout. Kristi McElhinney from Lane Blood Center shares why the event is so successful:

McElhinney: “Civil War Blood Drive is something that people have really started to look forward to, and they get excited about. Students get really amped up and excited when they know that we’re going to come to campus and of course the Ducks and Beavers rivalry is a big deal all around the state.”

Each blood donation can save up to three lives. McElhenny hopes to see new donors at the Civil War Blood Drive who will continue to give blood after the event.

When people give blood, they can cast a vote on which team they want to win the football game. The Oregon Ducks have a four year winning streak. To find a participating blood drive, or to follow the scoreboard of votes, visit civilwarblooddrive.com.
