4J Staffer May Have Been Exposed To COVID-19

Rachael McDonald

Lane County Health officials say a staff member at Eugene 4J School District was in direct contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19.

The county is still waiting for results of a COVID-19 test on the staff member.  4j is doing direct outreach with the parents of children who may have been around the staff member on a small number of bus routes on March 10 and 11th. Lane County Public Health Spokesperson Jason Davis:

“At this time we do not consider the children high risk to exposure. And even if this individual does test positive for COVID-19, they would still not be considered, under the strict public health definition of being an exposure for COVID-19.”

That definition is close contact with a person within 6 feet for an hour or more. The county did not disclose what schools are affected but that it was elementary and middle school students.

Any parents who are concerned can contact the Lane County Public Health hotline: 541-682-1380.
