Al King Resigns From Springfield School Board After Serving 13 Years

The Springfield School Board is looking to fill a vacancy after a member announced his resignation earlier this week.

Former state representative Al King has served on the Springfield School Board for 13 years. He's moving out of the district and is resigning from the board effective October 14. King has been active in the community as past president of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce and co-founder of the Springfield Education Foundation.

King's school board term doesn't expire until June of 2017. The Springfield School District is taking applications from citizens interested in serving out the remainder of the term. They must be a registered voter and have resided within the attendance boundaries of Springfield Public Schools for at least one year. The deadline to apply is Friday, October 2.

The school board will interview candidates at a work session October 12. The board's decision is expected to be announced at its regular meeting later that evening.
