Over the weekend, groups around Oregon kicked off the campaign against Measure 105. If enacted, it would overturn the state's immigrant sanctuary law. The measure will be on the ballot in November.
In Salem, about 100 volunteers met to canvass businesses:
"Our goal for today is 105 businesses to talk to, are you guys in agreement? Se puede!"
Alonso Oliveras is with Oregonians United Against Profiling:
"This is going to be affecting all Oregonians. Measure 105 would throw out Oregon's sanctuary law that's been in place for 30 years since 1987 so it'll lead towards more racial profiling, regardless of if people are legal or undocumented."
The measure repeals a state law that bans local police from detaining people just for violating federal immigration laws. Michael Pollen was one of the canvassers:
"Profiling is a horrible thing. It takes away your dignity. This is a hateful measure."
The first business to be approached was Salem's Plaza Morelia:

Proponents of the measure say it would help police coordinate with immigration authorities and that the existing law shields people in the country illegally.
