The City of Eugene has chosen its new Chief of Police. Chris Skinner from Richland, Washington.

City Manager John Ruiz says hundreds of community members and city staff were involved with the process of finding a new chief. Ruiz says there was broad-based support for Skinner to be hired.
“What they recognized and confirmed that I also saw in Chris was a depth of experience.” Ruiz says,  “He’s been a police chief for a number of years up in Washington. Has experience in Oregon. So, he has a lot of experience in the northwest. So, he understands who we are in this part of the country which is important.”
Skinner has been Police Chief in Richland since 2011. In Oregon, he formerly worked with the Benton County Sheriff’s office and the Hillsboro P.D. Former Eugene Police Chief Pete Kerns retired at the end of last year.
Skinner’s first day is April 30th. His annual salary will be $153,171.
