Chris Wig Announces Eugene City Council Run

Lane County Democratic Party Chair Chris Wig announced Tuesday that he is running for Eugene City Council. He is vying for the ward one seat currently occupied by George Brown. Brown hasn’t yet announced if he is seeking another term.

Chris Wig works as a drug and alcohol counselor and is a founding member of a Latino community action group. He has a Masters in Journalism from the University of Oregon.

WIG: “Eugene is growing and we’re not growing with it. Our city has city level concerns: housing, homelessness, drug addition, police accountability. I think that we need new solutions to these problems.”

Wig says that if elected he will work to reform outdated laws pertaining to rental properties. Wig says he wants to help make Eugene the most inclusive city in the nation.

So far he has raised over $4,000.00, according to the Oregon Secretary of State’s website.

Wig may face incumbent George Brown in the 2016 primaries. Brown has run unopposed twice and says that if he does decide to run he welcomes the competition. Joshua Skov has also announced he is running for the Ward One seat on Eugene’s City Council.
