While parts of Oregon have now entered phase one of the coronavirus re-opening plan, it doesn’t mean local government services are back to normal.
Behind the scenes, local governments largely kept functioning even during Governor Kate Brown’s stay-at-home executive order. But many cities voluntarily closed their buildings to the public as part of the effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.
That was true in Corvallis, and even though some Benton County businesses have opened their doors again, the city’s municipal buildings will stay closed for now.
Corvallis spokesperson Patrick Rollens said walk-in access to City Hall should be restored in the coming weeks. “Most likely we’ll pursue kind of a staged re-opening," he said. "So we’ll re-open some facilities as we’re able to. We may hold off on others.”
Playgrounds and the aquatic center are still closed until further notice. But Corvallis did re-open its skate park and BMX park on Friday.
The City of Albany, in neighboring Linn County, is also keeping its municipal buildings closed for now. The Albany Democrat-Herald reports most buildings won't re-open until at least June 1.
