Construction Continues With COVID-19 Protocols On Eugene's Riverfront Park

Aubrey Bulkeley

Like most everything during this time, Eugene’s Riverfront Park project has needed to make adjustments. However, construction on the next phase will continue as scheduled.

Brown Contracting plans to break ground at the end of April. Until then, the team is communicating with suppliers to ensure customized materials will be ready when needed.

City of Eugene Project Manager Emily Proudfoot says it’s challenging to follow social distancing guidelines and still produce a high quality product.

“You know, when you pour concrete, you have to do this leveling thing. And a lot of times if it’s a sort of a wide piece or something, you really need two people right next to each other putting the same amount of pressure on that leveling tool. And it’s really hard not to just snap to doing the way you regularly construct things.”

Even with the new restrictions, Proudfoot is confident the project will finish in Spring of 2021 like planned.
