Fire up the kettle and melt some butter…after a two-week delay, Dungeness Crab is back in season.
Oregon officials say the commercial crabbing season for the tasty crustacean will start for most of Oregon’s coast on December 16th. This should allow harvesting in time for holiday celebrations including Christmas and New Year’s.
The season opens for coastal areas south of Cape Falcon down to the California border. It was supposed to start December 1st, but test samples showed less-than-desired meat yields in crab then.
The area north of Cape Falcon will open later with a start date coordinated with Washington’s Dungeness crab industry.
