Oregonians affected by recent wildfires may be eligible to receive one month of aid through the Disaster Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (DSNAP).

The Oregon Department of Human Services has received federal approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service to offer DSNAP in eight Oregon counties impacted by the historic wildfires this summer and fall. The eight approved counties are Clackamas, Douglas, Jackson, Klamath, Lane, Lincoln, Linn, and Marion.

DSNAP benefits are provided via an electronic benefits transfer, similar to a debit card, and can be used to purchase food at grocery stores and other authorized snap retailers.

The DSNAP benefits are for those who either experienced damage or destruction of their home or self-employed business, or if they had a loss, reduction or significant delay in receiving income, or if they incurred any disaster-related expenses that are not expected to be reimbursed. Any one of those conditions will qualify for the one month of DSNAP benefits.

Pre-registration for the assistance began October 17 and applications are online only. For more information, visit the DSNAP page on the State of Oregon’s website. Additional assistance is available by calling 2-1-1 or by reaching out to the Aging and Disability Resource Connection at 1-855-ORE-ADRC.
