Dr. Margaret Hamilton Hired As Next LCC President

The Lane Community College Board of Education Wednesday announced it has hired Doctor Margaret Hamilton to be the 7th president of the college. She’ll fill the position Mary Spilde has held for nearly 16 years.

Margaret Hamilton has 28 years experience in community colleges. Right now, she’s vice president for Academic Affairs at Camden County College in New Jersey. Hamilton felt it was time for a new challenge and she wants to give back.

Hamilton: “I have gotten so much from education and higher ed. I am thrilled watching these students walk across that stage. It is the most wonderful thing. We’re so lucky to be in this field.”

Hamilton says part of her personal and professional mission is to work with and mentor diverse students.

Hamilton: “Although, how you define that in every part of the country is different, I can see Lane has its own groups of folks who probably will welcome the support.”

Hamilton says she hopes to tackle funding and enrollment challenges at LCC through partnerships and program audits. Hamilton will start her new job as LCC president in June. She’ll overlap with outgoing president Mary Spilde. Hamilton’s annual salary will start at $203-thousand.
