During Record Heat Wave, Residents Asked To "Check In" On Those At-Risk

As temperatures continue to rise throughout Oregon, the governor has a request of residents: Look out for each other.

The record-high heat is dangerous. Gov. Kate Brown said extra precautions should be taken to stay safe and cool. She advises drinking more water than usual—"don’t wait until you are thirsty.” Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the day when it’s hottest.

“And please, check in on at-risk friends, family and neighbors. Including those neighbors experiencing unsheltered homelessness,” she said.

Brown said the state has made emergency revisions to guidelines allowing increased capacity on mass transit during the heat wave. Anyone seeking access to a cooling center is encouraged to call 2-1-1.
