EPD Says Expect Heavy Traffic & Potential Car Break-Ins Near Autzen Saturday

Wikimedia Commons

The University of Oregon Football team plays their first game of the season this Saturday. Eugene police say that means heavy traffic around Autzen stadium and potential crime.

Debbie Janecek is with the EPD's Crime Prevention Unit. She says when the Ducks take on UC Davis this weekend, fans who drive should do a few things to prevent car break-ins.

Janecek: "Anytime we have a large event where they'll be a large number of vehicles left unattended for a defined period of time, our thieves know that. And they know this might be an opportunity for them."

Janecek says leave the car empty—no GPS, ipod cords, purses, or bags, and roll up windows and lock all doors. She also says to put things in the trunk before heading to Autzen.

Janecek says if someone does have their car broken in to, call the non-emergency police line.

Because of expected heavy traffic, police are urging people to ride the bus or bike to Autzen. Police say if you do drive, plan out a route in advance, expect congestion, and stay sober.
