Eugene Arts And Technology School Receives Grant

Eugene's Arts and Technology Middle School in Churchill has been awarded nearly $700,ooo dollars from a state STEM grant. STEM refers to studies in science, technology, engineering, and math. Principal Jeffery Johnson says the purpose of the grant is to create an environment where students and teachers focus on STEM classes in a project rich atmosphere. He says they will be acquiring new tools to make that happen.

Johnson: "The thing that the grant will bring in is in terms of curriculum, things like probes for sampling air quality and water quality. The kinds of tech based microscopes and 3-D printers as kids start to work on modeling and design and then the ability to produce an actual model to hold in their hands when they are done with the design process."

Johnson says they will also be expanding after school programs while working with their neighbor, the Boys and Girls Club of Emerald Valley. Students will be able to work with Claymation, robotics, app creation and STEM homework help.
