Eugene Cargo Bike Fair and Disaster Relief Trials Saturday

commuteorlando.com

The second annual Eugene Cargo Bike Fair and Disaster Relief Trials will be held Saturday at Alton Baker Park. It’s sponsored by the City of Eugene, the University of Oregon, and a host of bike advocates. Emma Stocker of the University’s Emergency Management Team says the event is designed to help demonstrate the capabilities of bikes in disaster situations such as:

Stocker: "The earthquake scenario.  We might be  several weeks without access to new fuels for our cars or response vehicles.  There might be debris in the streets.  This event is a great proof of concept for what cargo bikes can do to help individuals and community respond to an incident of that kind."

The Disaster Relief Trials, a race of fully loaded cargo bikes, will begin at one p.m. on a course that will loop through the park. It’s part of a public bike fair beginning at 11 featuring bike gear, preparedness events, pedal-power music, vendors fair, face painting and more.
