Eugene Celebration Parade Hits The Streets Saturday

Although the Eugene Celebration isn't happening this year, there will be a parade. There's also a celebration concert Saturday evening as part of the festivities.

The Pet Parade begins at 10:30 Saturday morning and covers a one-block area. It's followed at 11:00 by the parade beginning at South Eugene High School. The route takes participants north on High Street to 11th Avenue, then south on Pearl. This year's grand marshal is Lane Community College, which is using the parade to kick-off its year-long celebration of turning 50. Brett Rowlett is with Lane's Government and Community Relations.

Rowlett: "I think we'll be tough to miss. You're going to see our brand new LCC bus, followed by a couple ambulances and a bunch of marchers all out celebrating the fact that the college is turning 50 this year."

At 5:30 p.m. Saturday there's a celebration concert at the Cuthbert Amphitheater. Bands include Hell's Belles, Zepparella and Foreverland, a 14-piece Michael Jackson tribute band. The parade award ceremony happens on state at 6:30.
