The city council voted 5-3 to amend a resolution on homeless rest stops, Monday. The revised ordinance give gives the city the ability to expand the overnight campsites.
The change means the stops can now be located in residential areas and near schools, if the city determined any potential impact would be affectively reduced or addressed.
In addition, the city will also have the chance to provide more financial support to the overnight sleeping sites. Another update allows the sites to be placed on properties owned or leased by anyone.
Councilors Emily Semple, Alan Zelenka, Jennifer Yeh, Claire Syrett, and Chris Pryor voted in favor of amending the ordinance and councilors Betty Taylor and Mike Clark opposed the changes.
