Eugene School Board Votes to Extend School Year

Due to last week’s snowstorm, students here in Eugene will be in school until June 18.

Eugene School Board members voted Wednesday night to extend the 4J school year to make up for the 4 lost days. The end of the school year had been scheduled for June 13, a Thursday.

The approved change adds 3 days to the end of the school year and March 15 – which was a no-school day for professional development and planning – will now be a regular school day.

June 19, a Wednesday, will now be a grading day for teachers. High school graduation dates are the same.

No details yet on what other school districts are doing to make up for last week’s lost days.

Born and raised in Eugene, Anni started at KLCC in 2000 as a reporter and co-host of Northwest Passage. After graduating from the University of Oregon, Anni moved to New York City. She worked in education for several years before returning to her true love, journalism. Anni co-founded and co-hosted Dailysonic, a narrative-based news podcast. She interned at WNYC's On The Media, then becoming WNYC's assistant producer of Morning Edition.
