Eugene City Councilors have approved a new concept plan for the Town Square. The design team, under the Planning and Development Department, will move forward to make a more detailed design plan.
Town Square Analyst Josh Berman said the accepted plan transforms the Park Blocks and Butterfly Lot into a centralized gathering spot, located near 8th and Oak Street. The design calls for an all-season covered Farmers Market and a City Hall.
“The next stages of design will be some of the smaller details like what type of pavers to use, the exact placement of any benches that we might want to put in, or other furnishing. And then coming up with the actual construction documents,” Berman said.
Berman adds the square is still in the early phases of development, so it’s still unclear how much the Town Square will cost.
He said construction could start Fall of 2020, with hopes to complete renovation of the Park Blocks and the Farmers Market in 2021.
