Eugenian Weighs in on Trump Administration's Latest Immigration Policies

Centro Latino Americano

Over the past few weeks, the Trump administration has made many changes that impact immigrants.

For one, US citizens who are spouses of immigrants are unable to receive stimulus checks. Now, President Donald Trump has announced an immigration ban due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

David Sáez with Centro Latino Americano in Eugene says COVID-19 impacts everybody, no matter where they're coming from, and is disappointed in the administration’s actions.

“These are individuals—humans, people—that come here because they're looking for an opportunity for a better life and to make sure that their children and they are safe from violence, poverty, and health problems," said Sáez. "They see our country as a place where there's hope. And I think that is something that should honor us and should make us feel good about our country.”

Sáez said Centro Latino Americano is raising funds to help Latin-X and immigrant community members who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19.
