The FBI confirmed Thursday that the militant who died Tuesday was fatally shot by law enforcement. The man shot was LaVoy Finicum, a spokesperson for the armed occupiers at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.
The FBI released aerial videoshowing the Tuesday evening encounter between two of the militants' vehicles and law enforcement.
FBI special agent Greg Bretzing said he wanted to correct inaccurate versions of the fatal shooting circulating on social media.
The video shows Finicum leaving the truck with his hands extended as armed officers approach. Finicum then reaches toward his jacket pocket. Bretzing explained why officers shot.
BRETZING: He makes a movement towards the inside right panel of his jacket where there was located a loaded semi-automatic pistol.
The FBI says that more details about the fatal shooting will be released after a review by an incident team.
