Firefighters And Red Cross Volunteers From Oregon Aid In California Wildfire Effort

Oregon State Fire Marshal

Firefighters and Red Cross volunteers from Oregon are helping out in the wildfire efforts in California.

Hundreds of blazes have burned more than a million acres and have put tens of thousands of people under evacuation orders. The state is receiving assistance from crews from across the western United States.

The Oregon State Fire Marshal’s office says more than 80 firefighters from Oregon are on the ground to help fight the flames in the Napa Valley region. The agency says it’s the fourth year in a row that Oregon has sent crews to California.

The Cascades Region of the American Red Cross says nearly a dozen volunteers are headed south to support sheltering, feeding and logistics operations.

Meanwhile, smoke from the fires in both California and Oregon has prompted the state DEQ to extend an air quality advisory for eight counties in eastern and southern Oregon. The counties are: Deschutes, Lake, Klamath, Jackson, Jefferson, Baker, Harney and Malheur.
