In a highly anticipated match up, No. 4 Oregon topped No. 7 Oregon State 76-64 Friday night in the first of two Civil War games to be played in less than 48 hours.

Oregon State started strong and had the Ducks down 10-2 early on, but by the end of the first quarter, Oregon was on top 25-18. By the half the lead had widened and the Ducks were up 45-29, and hadn’t turned the ball over even once. Despite a late rally by the Beavers, the Ducks stayed on top for the remainder of the game.

Before a sellout crowd of 12,364, it didn’t take long for the women’s college basketball National Player of the Week Sabrina Ionescu to set yet another record. With the first bucket of the night, Ionescu had her 939th career assist on a pass to Ruthy Hebard, surpassing Gary Payton (Oregon State 1987-1990) to become the all-time Pac-12 assists leader for men or women.

Oregon State’s Taylor Jones finished with 21 points, with Destiny Slocum adding 18 for the Beavers. Oregon’s Satou Sabally recorded her 7th career double-double, with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Hebard also had 17 for the Ducks, while Ionescu led the team with 23 points.

The Ducks were no doubt fueled by the roaring crowd. Even Oregon Governor Kate Brown was on her feet during the traditional playing of “Shout,” and fans cheered when Oregon football great Dan Fouts was shown on the big screen throwing an “O”.

Oregon State will have their chance for an upset when the two teams meet up in Corvallis in front of a sold-out crowd on Sunday.
